What is Poker Affiliating?
A poker affiliate is someone who works with online poker rooms to send them players. Poker affiliates are paid a negotiated rate for each depositing player that they refer to the online poker room.
Most commonly poker affiliates will refer players to the poker rooms through their websites. Poker affiliates are given special tracking devices such as links and referral codes that will track each player they send to the room. Although it is most common that poker affiliates have poker or gambling related websites, poker affiliates can direct players from any type of site.
Another interesting way to refer players to online poker rooms is through ‘offline’ promoting. Most poker rooms will give their affiliates referral codes that players can enter when they are signing up. Affiliates can advertise their referral code with permission at poker events, bars, parties or simply to their friends. The most common way to do offline advertising is with business cards that have the affiliate’s referral code on them.
Poker affiliates will generally have the option of being paid through a CPA or MGR deal. A CPA plan is a set amount of money the affiliate will earn for each real money player they send. A MGR plan is where the affiliate will earn a percentage of each players ‘rake’. Rake is the money that the poker rooms make from every hand the players play; it is used in both live and online poker rooms.
Generally the CPA deals will give the new affiliates anywhere between $75 and $125 for each player they send and the MGR deal gives affiliates anywhere between 20% and 35% of the player rake for life. These dollar amounts and percentages will generally increase with the more players you send and can be negotiated once the poker rooms see that you are sending a lot of players to their room.
Poker affiliates can sign up with each individual room or they can use the Poker Affiliate World (PAW) network. The PAW network works with almost every top online poker room to make things easy for the affiliates. Instead of having the affiliate sign up for every rooms poker affiliate program separately, the affiliate can sign up at PAW and promote every room from one place.
