Creating Poker Mini Sites

Poker 'Mini Sites'

April 13th, 2009

One of the strategies that has been talked about amongst the poker affiliate community is creating 'mini sites'. Mini sites are basically smaller poker portals that are created with anywhere from three to twenty or so pages. These sites are often uploaded with content at the beginning and don't need much work done to them throughout the year, except for maybe some article updates. When I build mini sites my main goal is to target a couple different phrases that I think can convert players. These sites can also be used to link between your other poker sites, but you should never do the linking to rank higher in search engines, only do so when it makes sense. Although I think it is important to create at least one bigger poker portal, mini sites can help your overall poker affiliate business.

Idea's for different mini sites are pretty easy to think of. The best way to get started is to look in your other poker sites analytics. When I look at my sites stats I often find some keywords that are being searched for that I didn't target directly or didn't think would be getting searched for by players too much. I then analyze the terms and figure out if I could get a high enough ranking would it bring in some quality converting traffic. You will probably be able to find a couple terms within your sites logs that won't be hard to rank for and will bring in some extra money for you.

One idea for a mini site would be pick a poker room and write 15 different articles related to that poker site. I recently started an Ultimate Bet referral code site that I am going to be basing totally around Ultimate Bet. If I can write 15 different articles about UB promotions, depositing at Ultimate Bet, Ultimate Bet banking options, etc., I am sure I can bring in some traffic that will convert. Another idea for a poker mini site would be to focus on a less popular type of poker and write 10 or so different articles about the game. An example would be Razz Poker. Write a couple different strategy articles for Razz, write up about rooms that offer Razz, write about the history of Razz Poker, anything you can think of about Razz Poker and you should be able to get some traffic.

If you are a new poker affiliate I would suggest start off with one main site. Once you get a hang of building sites and what poker players are looking for start to build mini sites around different topics. Keep track of everything and find out whats working, and then repeat. Poker mini sites are a great way to add to your poker affiliate income, but you should always continue to build bigger poker portals for your main source of income. If you decide to create a mini site because of this article I would love to take a look, just shoot me over an e-mail!
